The first spray is resinous and hot, olibanum and cinnamon sharpened by angelica and a squeeze of lime. In the heart, Virginia cedar and vetiver bring dry earth, labdanum adds richness, cloves a snap of heat and Egyptian jasmine a little light. The base deepens into incense and myrrh, held together by musk.

Its character is bold, dark and a little mysterious, smoky without feeling heavy. Rated at eight to ten hours, it suits every season and comes alive after dark: dinners by candlelight, weddings, festivals and late nights out. Keep it for occasions when you want your presence to linger in the room.
